A Florida mother found a YouTube video that gives children instructions on how to kill themselves.
Free Hess said she found a cartoon on YouTube Kids where a man showed youngsters how to slit their wrists. Motioning with his hand on his wrist, he shows the viewer how to slit their wrists to ‘get results’. The discovery shocked her, raising serious concerns about the kind of content being filtered - or not - by digital platforms meant to protect vulnerable audiences.
The mother campaigned to have the clip removed but found this month that it had resurfaced on the site, hidden in the middle of a cartoon. The video was still on YouTube despite people flagging the harmful content, she said. The lack of immediate response highlighted a broader issue in online spaces, where moderation often fails to keep up with fast-moving uploads. This gap between intention and execution is in stark contrast to controlled environments like city center online casino, where user engagement is closely monitored, and content is curated to maintain a secure and immersive experience.
YouTube kids is described by the Google-owned site as a ‘family friendly’ version of YouTube.
