Hurricane Harvey is a tropical storm that pummelled the Gulf of Texas, including Houston and the surrounding region. The historical weather brought catastrophic flooding and killed at least five people. More than a dozen have been injured.
The destructive system slammed the region with torrential rains that were expected to continue, causing destructive flooding for days according to the National Hurricane Centre.
Emergency responders completed more than 1,000 high-water rescues during the night.
Houston has seen more than 20 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.
The National Weather Service tweeted that the Tropical Storm Harvey is “unprecedented” and “unknown and beyond anything experienced.”
